about

Keith Brighouse

born in Liverpool 1955, Keith now resides in Leeuwarden, Netherlands.

He studied art at Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten, Rotterdam and sculpture at Sheffield City Polytechnic.

He initially started out as a sculptor, before turning to video, printmaking, painting, poetry and photography. He happily moves between figurative, abstract work and conceptual work, as easy as he moves between materials, such as traditional materials, discarded objects and detritus that comes to hand, as well as products he finds in budget stores. Mood and thought are always in a state of flux and this is how he approaches his art, each art work requires a different approach.

Influenced by anti-art, he walks a line between anti-art and more traditional gallery work. However, there are discernible themes that run through his work, whether abstract or figurative, the erotic, death and the political are subjects he returns to time and time again.
