I started drawing the daily throwaway drawings to stimulate my imagination by forcing myself to make at least one spontaneous drawing a day. It is no surprise that many of the drawings were inspired by the news of that day, though it isn't always obvious what the story that inspired me was.
the monkey business drawings came out of the daily throwaway drawing exercise. I never had a plan to create a series of work but over a series of days, I became obsessed with monkey images, which seemed to be a satirical on government lack of action on environmental issues.
abstract inks was another series of works that grew out of the daily throwaway series of works. If I failed to be inspired to draw anything, I would force myself to use the materials of indian ink and the brushes as the subject and explore the formal qualities they allowed.
